If you are an avid angler and like a trophy fish then you must go to Africa and try fishing for the legendary Tiger Fish. This fish lives up to all expectations; a certain challenge, feisty and ferocious – let alone its super scary teeth. Definitely a must to do while in Africa angling for tiger fish!!! Yes, Tigerfish have very sharp and very prominent teeth but they are also very beautiful with their attractive rainbow skin coloration. Catch and release is most common form of fishing, but they can be made into very interesting wall trophy’s, instigating tall stories and great discussions by visitors! There are in fact several Tigerfish species. Its the Goliath Tigerfish, living up to its name grows to colossal sizes. The Goliath Tigerfish is mostly found in the Congo River system and Lake Tanganyika. The smaller variety which is more beautiful looking with a bright rainbow colouring and bright orange/red tail lives throughout the rest of the African water systems. The Zambezi River, Okavango Delta and Lake Kariba are the most popular, and easily accessible, fishing destinations.
There are numerous places to fish while in Africa. Luxury lodges at Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe also include fishing excursions. Rods can be provided while on safari allowing you to enjoy a favorite pastime angling for tiger fish or bream while on holiday in a wild and beautiful country. Zambezi River is another popular destination for fishing in Africa – Victoria Falls makes a great base for any holiday in a spectacular location. Here a fishing eagle may have taken the one that you were hoping to get! You could always combine luxury and fishing in the same experience aboard the stunning Zambezi Queen Now that would be memorable!!
Africa is an incredible continent with loads of adventure activities and safaris to participate in. Angling or fishing in Africa is not the first thing that springs to mind when travelling to Africa, however maybe it should be as there is a huge variety of fish to be caught. Of course the preditory Tiger Fish is one of the top adrenaline adventure fish you can catch but why not try angling for the dogtooth tuna which also has nasty teeth, or the powerful GT’s (Giant Trevally). Another powerful fish which will peal away your line is the Steen Bras which also happen to be very tasty eating as they love feeding on shrimps and squid.
